![]() ![]() The next thing I noticed was that they're pushing "Luminar Neo," which is apparently a rewrite of their last version, and you can once again "get it at around Christmas time." Which leads me to think first, that there most recent pre-Neo version must be pretty bad and in need of a rewrite, and secondly, reminds me of the push to get Luminar 3 released by Christmas time a few years ago, along with all the bug fixes that followed. The second thing I saw was "they've added layer processing back to the program." Since I stopped using Luminar long ago, I don't know when layer processing was removed, but I'm sure "that was a feature" at the time. The first thing I noticed from their new announcement was that the five seat license that was in version 3 and was reduced to two seats in version 4 has now been reduced to one seat, unless you buy a second seat. They have now introduced some newer version and are busily sending me emails about it. ![]() Lots of reported defects remained, but skylum stopped listening to users and seemed oblivious. They finally decided they were finished with all that, but of course users knew otherwise. It then required bug fix rollout after bug fix rollout after bug fix rollout. The head honcho apparently wanted it introduced at about Christmas time, and they did throw something over the wall at about that time. It was as if they had no quality assurance department. This in large part because their rollout of Luminar 3 was a complete disaster. That said, I'm generally not a fan of Luminar. I downloaded it and it appears to be working. I also love the experience of seeing Impressionist art in real life. But maybe we can capture that impression with a painting. We will never see the most beautiful second of that sunset from last weekend again. The idea of capturing a moment in time before it disappears and having it last forever is beautiful. I love the way Impressionist paintings make me feel. The Artist’s Garden in Giverny by Claude Monet (1900) Viewing Impressionism art in person As you move further away from the painting, the scene, the emotion, and the details become clearer. As you get close to the canvas, you see the artist’s hand in every individual brush stroke and glob of paint. The closer you view Impressionism art, the less clear the painting becomes and the more chaotic it gets. Clearer picture from further awayįinally, one of my favorite Impressionism art characteristics is how the paintings become clearer the further away you are physically from the canvas. So, these objects didn’t necessarily have the colors you would naturally attribute to them, but what they looked like as the Impressionists were painting “en plein air”. The artists wanted to depict objects in the light that they saw at certain times of day or in certain environments. In capturing the moment they were painting, they captured objects and colors as they saw them. Impressionist artists didn’t like to use “local color”. Another way to think of “local color” is the colors that we typically attribute to things – grass is green, snow is white, the sky is blue. The term “local color” refers to the color an object would naturally appear in neutral, white light. The fourth characteristic of Impressionism art is the use of relative color. Therefore, you get a lot of landscapes and outdoors scenes from Impressionism. So, they painted “en plein air”, meaning out in the open. In order to do so, they needed to be on-scene. The Impressionists wanted to capture a moment in time and the feeling or “impression” of that moment. Impressionists decided to take their canvases outside, which was unheard of at the time. Studios were controlled environments, often with models and apprentices involved. ![]() ![]() Paintings prior to Impressionism were usually completed in some sort of studio. The third Impressionism art characteristic is called “en plein air”, which refers to painting outdoors. (See an analysis of Caravaggio’s The Entombment of Christ for an example of Baroque art.)Ĭlaude Monet Painting by the Edge of a Wood by John Singer Sargent (1885) This was the primer that they painted on their canvas before painting the rest of the painting on top of this dark brown or black. In fact, a lot of Baroque artists painted a dark brown or black “ground” color on their canvas. Also, you can look back to the Baroque period. The artists during Realism typically used blacks, grays, and browns, which resulted in darker, more earthbound paintings. The art movement prior to Impressionism was Realism. To really understand why this was groundbreaking at the time, let’s jump back in art history. Now, colors and brightness differed by artist and different times during the movement, but in general you’ll see a lot of brightness in Impressionism art. The second of the five Impressionism art characteristics I want to focus on is the brightness of the paintings from this movement. ![]() This is why you can often see individual strands of the paintbrush being used in an Impressionist piece. And in so doing, they move quickly, without much detail, as the artist’s hand moves across the canvas with quick brush strokes. Instead, Impressionists are trying to capture a moment – an “impression”. The focus of Impressionist artworks is not on the fine details. Some studies have demonstrated that it might be even higher than that with other hip-preserving techniques, such as cancellous screws. DHS was shown to be associated with a high risk of osteonecrosis. Many authors have described cases of AVN after a femoral neck fracture surgery. Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) Technique and the Risk of AVN A less common cause is Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease, an idiopathic AVN in the pediatric population. In the case of hematopoietic cell transplantation, concomitant immunosuppressive treatment with corticosteroids and graft versus host disease was proposed to induce microcirculation alterations and, consequently, AVN. In sickle cell hemoglobinopathy, ischemia is provoked by restrictions in local blood flow by abnormally adherent blood cells. Patients who developed anemia in the course of that disease have increased chances of AVN development by 60% when compared with the non-anemic group. Other conditions related to the AVN include Gaucher’s disease. Alcohol may provoke osteocyte death through several pathways, e.g., by increasing intracellular deposition of triglycerides, which leads to pyknosis of osteocytes similarly to corticosteroids, and by decreasing osteogenesis through promoting stromal cell differentiation into adipocytes. The potential mechanism of induction of AVN is unknown. Īlcohol abuse is reported by 20–30% of the patients with AVN. Other drugs, such as antiretrovirals, are also linked to increased AVN risk. For instance, in patients treated with corticosteroids due to systemic lupus erythematosus, a higher risk of AVN was observed than in patients with other medical diagnoses. ![]() It is proposed that other factors, including genetic polymorphisms and concomitant diseases, increase individuals’ vulnerability. Nonetheless, not all patients receiving corticosteroids develop AVN. Every additional 10 mg/day increased the rate of AVN by 3.6%. The incidence of AVN was 6.7% with a corticosteroid dose of >2 g prednisone equivalent per day. A dose-dependent effect was observed in a meta-analysis performed by Mont et al. As a result of increased pressure inside the bone cells, vascular endothelial cells become damaged, leading to local coagulopathy, vascular thrombosis, and ischemia. ![]() This process leads to the intracellular accumulation of lipids. Corticosteroids alter adipocytes’ differentiation, increasing the size and number of adipocytes. The most common non-traumatic causes are corticosteroid treatment and alcohol abuse. In the United Kingdom, it is the third most common reason for total hip replacement (THR) in patients under 50 years of age. Between 10,000 and 20,000 new cases of AVN of the femoral head are diagnosed in the United States (US) each year. It typically affects physically active people aged between 20 and 40 years. The most common etiological factors include treatment with corticosteroids, fractures, dislocation of the hip joint, and alcohol abuse. AVN may occur due to ischemia developing on a traumatic or non-traumatic background.
